Ohio State quarterback Will Howard has been in stellar form as the indomitable Buckeyes have swept aside all opposition in the College Football Playoff. Next up for coach Ryan Day's team is an exciting clash against coach Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday.

The clash will pit two high-profile quarterbacks against each other with Longhorns star Quinn Ewers gearing up to face his old team led by Howard, who has never beaten Texas in his college football career. During Sunday's segment of the "No. 1 Football Show," analyst R.J. Young made an eye-catching comment regarding the two quarterbacks.

"I have been beating a drum for Will Howard for the better part of a year," Young said (4:23). "There's a lot of Ohio State fans who still don't think he's that good. I gave a segment just the other day going, 'Compare his stats to Quinn Ewers, he's stomping out Quinn Ewers.'
"He's throwing for more yards, he's throwing for more touchdowns, he's got a higher completion percentage for people that wanna talk about Ewers missing two and a half games.
"What the hell does that got to do with him completing passes? I'm trying to tell all of y'all, all Will Howard has to do is play the kind of football he's been playing the last two games and it's not going to be close."

The embattled Ewers has tallied 3,189 yards on 66.5% completion, resulting in 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while Howard has managed 3,490 yards on 72.6% completion for 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Will Howard motivated to finally beat Texas

Will Howard has been the best quarterback in the College Football Playoff, accounting for 630 yards resulting in five touchdowns in the blowout wins against the Tennessee Volunteers (42-17) and the Oregon Ducks (41-21) while posting a 98.3 QBR.

The one scalp that the Ohio State quarterback is aiming for is the Longhorns, and he asserted as much during his weekly news conference after failing to beat them four times in the past as a Kansas State Wildcats QB.

“For me, personally,” Howard said, “that was the only team I didn’t beat when I was in the Big 12. They're always a good team. But none of those games were unwinnable. So, yeah, there’s definitely, personally for me, a little extra motivation there, because I never got the chance to beat these guys.
“Texas is a heck of a football team. So we're going to have to be on our stuff."

Will Howard will have explosive wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who has tallied 1,224 yards on 70 receptions and 14 touchdowns, as his secret weapon to help him overcome the Longhorns hurdle for the first time in his career.
