Deion Sanders draws attention in the world of football for his behavior on and off the field. The Colorado coach is often scrutinized for a lot of things in and out of his personal life, gaining the media's attention on many occasions.
He's been criticized for the use of the transfer portal, and the unorthodox way he manages a college football program. He's also been accused of nepotism regarding the treatment of his sons within the Colorado program; however, his sons do not agree with this assessment.
All three of Deion Sanders’ sons (Deion Jr., Shilo and Shedeur) discussed their upbringing under their father while growing up on the podcast “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders.” Deion Jr. discusses how strict their father was when it came giving, contrary to what many people had believed regarding their upbringing.
“He said no to everything,” Deion Jr. said. “The only time he would give money is if I say ‘Hey, it's spring break, I'm about to go to Miami,’ then he'll give me… When I was in SMU, he'd give me like $500.”
Shilo backed up Deion Jr.’s story by saying:
“$500 to dad is like $15,000.”
Shedeur explains how Deion Sanders gives them money
Born to a rich home, the common belief would be that they were getting a truckload of cash from their father while growing up. However, Shedeur explained on the podcast that wasn't the case for them while growing up as it was hard to squeeze out cash from him.
“You have to understand our perspective is everything is different. Dad always kept us grounded in between. When we were younger, he wouldn't just say, “Here's $10,000.” He used to give us (Shedeur and Shilo) $40 to go to the mall and we used to split it.
Deion Sanders was very disciplined when it came to giving out money to his kids according to the three of them and it's an experience they laugh a lot about. They said the Pro Football Hall of Famer was brought up from a humble background and it explains why he needed to make his kids appreciate the value of money.
Shilo narrates a money scenario with Deion Sanders
After Shedeur explained how much Deion Sanders used to give to them while going to the mall, Shilo had a story to illustrate the point. He went on to describe a scenario between himself, Shedeur, and their father:
“We fought over $100.… That time he gave us $100 to go to the mall. So we (Shedeur and Shilo) were like ‘I'm going to hold it, I'm going to hold it.’ And then he said ‘Give it to me.’ We gave him the $100 bill and he ripped it in half and gave it to both of us.”
With NIL endorsement in college football, Shedeur and Shilo have been able to earn money as amatuer players. Deion Jr., is also making money from content creation on social media as the creator of Well Off Media on Youtube.
