Colorado Buffaloes' coach Deion Sanders has defended Eric Dickerson. The former NFL running back recently claimed that he didn't want to see Saquon Barkley break his rushing record. After Dickerson's comments, many fans took aim at the legend and were disappointed in his comments. Amid the backlash, Dickerson took to social media to clarify what he meant.
Dickerson spoke about how he was a supporter of all running backs and was also a fan of Saquon Barkley but added that he was old school and the records that he earned took a lot of hard work. After Dickerson's video, Deion Sanders took to X to and responded to Dickerson's clarification.
"This is 1 of my heroes! He said what he said and that’s it. His curl was also wet but mine looked wet but it was dry," Sanders wrote.
Barkley won't be breaking Dickerson's record though as Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni announced that the running back would be resting in Week 18. This will ensure that Barkley is at his best in the post-season.
“I’m just happy I didn’t have to make that decision,” Barkley said, via TSN. “Nick made it pretty easy on me and I’m truly at peace with it.”
"Absolutely not": Eric Dickerson's earlier comments about whether he wanted Barkley to break his record
Despite Dickerson's claiming he was rooting for Saquon Barkley his previous comments conveyed something different. In a recent interview with The Times' Sam Farmer, Dickerson spoke about the record.
"Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not," Dickerson said. "I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it. He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have."
As for Sanders, he's coming off his second season as coach of the Colarado Buffaloes. Coach Prime led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record but the Buffs were blown out by BYU in the Alamo Bowl. Sanders has a combined 13-12 record in two years at Colorado and has helped turn the team around.
