Bryce Underwood is a five-star quarterback prospect and recently surprised the college football world by switching his commitment from the LSU Tigers to the Michigan Wolverines.

This switch comes at the perfect time for the Wolverines. After a disappointing season where the quarterback position was where they had numerous struggles, Underwood could be the player they need to bring them back to the upper tier of the Big Ten Conference.

Underwood has wasted no time making an impact on his Wolverine teammates. On Tuesday, his new side will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

In the build-up to the game, which Bryce Underwood will not be playing in, current Michigan quarterback Davis Warren spoke to the media and gave his verdict on the incoming freshman.

“He’s been great. He wants to learn, wants to get better. Obviously, the college game is different, and you got to adjust, and there’s a lot of things you got to do differently. I learned that coming in, me and JJ [McCarthy] working through a lot of those things together. I know Bryce is going to have to do the same but he’s coming with the right mindset and the right mentality. Just really is excited to be in here every day and has a passion about getting better at football. So, that’s the biggest thing I’ve seen out of him and I know he’s gonna keep doing that. He has great initiative.”

Warren has nothing but praise for his new teammate. As he mentions, he was once in the same position as Underwood was. The new quarterback in a historic program.

However, there is a minor difference between the situations. Warren came into a Michigan program on the up and spent time behind J.J. McCarthy, who would lead the team to a national championship win. Working under a top quarterback like McCarthy definitely helped Warren to develop into the player that he is today.

On the other hand, while Warren is a good quarterback, he is no McCarthy. Luckily, Underwood makes up for Warren's weaknesses on the field. Together, the pair can both develop into strong quarterbacks, with Underwood taking the lead in future years.

Bryce Underwood in High School

Bryce Underwood played high school football in the state of Michigan. During his time in high school, he led his team to two state championship titles.

He was also named Michigan Mr. Football for the 2024 season.

Once you take these numbers into account, is it no suprise that Bryce Underwood is the number one ranked player in the class of 2025.
