Travis Hunter, the Colorado Buffaloes’ two-way sensation, shared a heartfelt moment after winning the prestigious Walter Camp Award on Thursday night. Colorado Football’s Instagram page captured Hunter’s celebratory moment, honoring a season that solidified his place among college football’s elite.
Hunter didn’t stop there. The dynamic star also took home the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player and the Biletnikoff Award for the best wide receiver during the same ceremony in Las Vegas.
In an email shared with ESPN, Hunter expressed his gratitude:

"Couldn't do what I do without my team," Hunter said [h/t ESPN]. "So I view being up for these awards as team awards."
Hunter’s incredible season has made him a frontrunner for the coveted Heisman Trophy, cementing his legacy before an almost inevitable leap to the NFL. ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. currently ranks Hunter No. 1 on his Big Board of prospects.
Reflecting on his unique journey, the Buffs WR credited his coach, Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, for believing in him.
"Coach Prime was the only coach who would consider allowing me to do what I'm doing," Hunter said. "He did it and knows what it takes, how much you have to be ready on both sides of the ball."
Hunter’s numbers this season speak for themselves:
Offensive Stats:
- 92 receptions
- 1,152 receiving yards
- 15 touchdowns
Defensive Stats:
- 32 tackles
- 4 interceptions
- 11 pass deflections
- 1 forced fumble
Beyond the stats, Hunter’s determination has inspired fans and teammates alike.
"I'm motivated when people tell me I can't do something," Hunter said. "That I can't dominate on both sides of the ball. I want to be an example for others that anything is possible. Keep pursuing your dreams."
Hunter’s standout performances helped the Buffaloes to a 9-3 record and a spot in the Alamo Bowl against No. 17 BYU (10-2) on Dec. 28. With the Heisman Trophy still in play and the NFL on the horizon, his story is far from over.
Travis Hunter’s remarkable 2024 season
Travis Hunter has been named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year, earning 26 of 43 votes from the AP Top 25 panel on Thursday. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty came in second with 16 votes, while Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo received one vote.
Hunter’s versatility has been remarkable this season. He logged 688 snaps on defense and another 672 on offense, making him the only Power Four conference player to record 30 or more snaps on both sides of the ball, according to Colorado’s research.
Travis Hunter now has a chance to join Colorado legend Rashaan Salaam as the school’s only Heisman winner. Salaam claimed the prestigious award in 1994 after rushing for 2,055 yards.
