Following Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders’ performances against Oklahoma State on Friday, Robert Griffin III dropped his take on the Heisman Trophy race. While the competition for the coveted award has always been tight, the former winner believes this year is unique.
Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy at Baylor in 2011, edging out Stanford’s Andrew Luck, who was the preseason favorite. Griffin accumulated 1,687 points to beat Luck who had 1,407 points. However, he believes voters will be more divided this time due to the number of outstanding players in the race.
“The Heisman race between Ashton Jeanty, Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders should be one of the closest votes ever,” Griffin wrote on X. “That’s how GREAT all these young men have been this year. It will come down to preference. Jeanty and Shedeur are the best at their position. Travis is a unicorn.”

Robert Griffin III sees Shedeur Sanders in New York
Shedeur Sanders isn't projected to be a Heisman Trophy finalist heading into the final week of the regular season. However, following his performance against Oklahoma State on Friday, Robert Griffin III believes he will be named among the finalists alongside Travis Hunter.
“Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter should be in New York for the Heisman,” Griffin wrote on X.
The quartet of Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Dillon Gabriel and Cam Ward are projected in quarters as potential finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
Nonetheless, Robert Griffin III is putting Shedeur Sanders in the mix. Hunter and Jeanty lead the race, with one of the two expected to clinch the award in December.
Deion Sanders makes a further case for Travis Hunter
Deion Sanders continues to champion Travis Hunter as the frontrunner in the Heisman Trophy race, particularly after his remarkable performance against Oklahoma State.
The coach firmly believes that Hunter has solidified his claim to college football's most prestigious award.
"Travis Hunter proved today, and he has proved every week that he is the best player in college football," Sanders said.
"You've got to give me another definition of the award. The award is to go to who? The best quarterback? He's up for best offensive player, best defensive player, a plethora of things. "Who else has done that? Ever?"
Hunter delivered another stellar two-way performance against Oklahoma State, hauling in 10 receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side, he added an interception, showcasing his game-changing impact on both ends of the field.
