Heisman winner & Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard issues high-quality NFL advice to Travis Hunter as CU star gears up for the next step

Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter is the Heisman favorite this season. However, he has also made a name for himself off the field with his weekly podcast, "The Travis Hunter Show." Every week, he has guests from around the sporting world.

On Wednesday, he hosted Heisman winner and Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard on his show to discuss college football and other topics. Roughly halfway through the show (30:47), Hunter asks Howard's advice for the NFL.

"I would say, make sure that you do everything that you were doing before times 10 when you get to the NFL," Howard said. "Because you know you habits, you have things that have made you successful and that's like your foundation. I don't think you ever stray away from it. But I still think you need to build upon that at the next level.

"Studying, of course you study film, but you need to do it two times or five times as much. Whatever you were doing, you want to double it, triple it, quadruple it at the next level."

Desmond Howard also talked with Travis Hunter about the importance of financial literacy

Desmond Howard advised Travis Hunter regarding financial management. Although Hunter is paid well through NIL in college, the amount of money he will receive in the NFL is on a different level.

"Today's athlete, espeically athlete, but student athletes as well with NIL, financial literacy is key," Howard said. "That's a cornerstone. You talking to people, I don't care if it's an agent or what not, if they're not talking to you about financial literacy, you don't want them as part of your team.

"More importantly, and this is the best advice. Always make sure people are speaking to you in a language that you understand. Meaning, Trav can talk to Coach Prime about a defense. The average Joe can sit there and listen to them and not understand what they're talking about, even though they're speaking English. Same thing with anything else you need to have an understanding of."

Travis Hunter is expected to be picked high in the 2025 NFL draft. Many mock drafts have him projected as the number one overall pick.
