Pat McAfee has been an integral part of ESPN College GameDay for the better part of the last two seasons. But with the new college football campaign creeping closer, the former NFL star still hasn't signed a new contract with the show.

Amid the uncertainty, ESPN's president of content Burke Magnus says that while Pat McAfee is yet to sign a new contract, he expects the ex-punter to be part of the College GameDay crew.

"Yeah, I presume he will. What Andrew Marchand reported is technically true relative to ink on a piece of paper. But as you know in our world, it's a fairly common situation to have reached an agreement without an execute contract or piece of paper," Magnus said.

Fans took to social media to share their divided opinion on the ex-NFL star returning to the College GameDay show.

One fan was excited about the potential of McAfee's return to the GameDay crew:

"Hell yeah"

Another fan believes that his return would ruin the essence of the show:

"gameday ruined"

This fan believes that College GameDay got more popular and attention because of Pat McAfee:

"Why is there even a discussion on if he should come back? I feel like more people started watching because of him."

One fan felt that the college football world would not be too impressed with McAfee's return to College GameDay:

"That's not news college football fans are gonna be thrilled to hear about."

This fan believes that Pat McAfee will once again bring energy to the show:

"Pat coming back is a MAJOR W for the show. The energy is unmatched"

Another fan justified that CFB fans could not sync with McAfee's NFL take on college games:

"Pat didn't do his homework on college football and their traditions! He came at it from a pro football standpoint, and that does not work with college fans."

Burke Magnus is positive about Pat McAfee's return to ESPN College GameDay

During the recent Q&A with The Athletic, Magnus stated that the current contract situation with Pat McAfee is just him being himself and that he believes that the ex-NFL star is bound to return to the GameDay crew.

"I think from time to time Pat likes to just muse on what we may or may not want to do. We're not in the business of handcuffing anybody to a table. This is not unique to Pat. If somebody comes up to us and says, 'Hey I'd rather do this or that instead of that,' we'll listen and have those conversations. But Pat I expect to be there on College GameDay," Magnus said.

This year, College GameDay will see retired national championship-winning coach Nick Saban joining Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and -- if Burke Magnus' expectation is proven right -- Pat McAfee on the crew.
