The Dallas Cowboys are having a disappointing 2024 season and will enter Week 12 with a 3-7 record and little playoff hope to cling to. With coach Mike McCarthy's job on the line, much of the media conversation surrounding the Cowboys is about a possible change in culture and leadership. NFL analyst Colin Cowherd has been one of the loudest promoters of this idea.
On Tuesday, he joined Michael Irvin, a former Cowboys' wide receiver, in suggesting that the next move for the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones should be to hire Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders. Cowherd also added that the Cowboys should draft Sanders' son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, to help bring Coach Prime to the NFL.
“I am convinced that if Dallas gets the No.1 pick," Cowherd said. "I think they have a chance to, I think they’re going to draft Shedeur Sanders and hire Deion Sanders as coach."
He added that the Cowboys' only hope for redemption is to lose their next game against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving, which would position them for the No. 1 pick and a chance to draft Shedeur:
“It’s the only way to escape the current mess. Hire a rockstar head coach and draft a rockstar QB on a rookie deal.”
Legendary rapper Ice Cube weighs in on Deion Sanders’ coaching future
Deion Sanders’ success as the coach of Colorado (8-2) this season has placed him in the limelight. For the most part, Sanders has expressed contentment, saying on last week's episode of FS1's "Speak," that he loves it where he is. Nevertheless, rumors of a potential NFL move continue to sweep through the community.
However, in an interview with rapper Ice Cube on Wednesday's "We Got Time Today," Sanders asked for some advice:
“What would you do if you were in my situation?”
Cube responded:
“Why not? And if it’s in a Raiders uniform. Come on, baby. ... That would be a dream come true as a fan.”
Cube also implied that the Buffs' players would love for him to stay at Colorado and joked that Sanders would be like a "King" walking around the campus if he did stay.
