"I thank all the brothers, all my brothers through college, Jackson State included. That was my learning grounds. That's my proven grounds," Hunter said. Travis Hunter's mom shares heartfelt message on her son's Heisman victory
The Colorado two-way star's mom, Ferrante Edmonds, was overwhelmed with his Heisman victory. After the ceremony, she shared a heartwarming emotional message for her son while talking about how she was filled with pride by Hunter's success.
Edmonds also talked about Hunter's difficult upbringing and him overcoming every adversity and challenge to be the person he is today.
"I always told him, you are the prize. It doesn't matter where you go,, you are the prize. It doesn't matter what the school is, you're the prize. You bring value. You are him," Ferrante said.
"You're gifted. So use your gifts, not just for you, but people that surround you. People that need something to see. We come from an area that is pretty rough. It was pretty rough, but that doesn't dictate that you cannot be who you are, that you cannot be the star. Look where he is now."
Travis Hunter is the second Colorado player to win the program. The first was Rashaan Salaam, 30 years ago during the 1994 season. It will be interesting to see if Hunter continues playing both ways of the ball after making his professional transition to the NFL.
