Deion Sanders shared a heartwarming message to congratulate his son, Shedeur, after the quarterback won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Friday. In an Instagram post, a proud Coach Prime also wrote that he was glad Shedeur thanked god in his acceptance speech.
Deion's wishes came in just a few hours after his ex-wife, Pilar Sanders, posted a tribute for Shedeur on Instagram.
"YES SON!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 LEGENDARY #teamworkmalesthedreamwork #grateful #shedeursanders #goldenarmaward #proudmom #footballmom," Pilar wrote in the caption of her IG post.
Shedeur finished the regular season for Colorado by completing 337 of 454 passes for 3,925 passing yards, 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for four scores on 91 carries in 12 games, leading Colorado to a 9-3 record (7-2 Big 12).
In his acceptance speech, Shedeur began by praising the almighty. He also thanked the committee for recognizing his efforts.
"I just want to thank God for this opportunity," Shedeur said. "It was tough looking back, just being at HBCU, coming to Power 5. People don’t respect how you played, they don’t respect the things you did not because of me, but because of Pops, because of Dad. They just didn’t like him.”
Shedeur, who was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, is likely yet to play his final game for Colorado.
Deion Sanders suggests Shedeur Sanders might play in Colorado's bowl game
After Colorado's dominant 52-0 win over Oklahoma State on Nov. 29, Deion Sanders said he expects his big stars to play in Colorado's bowl game later in December. Shedeur could lead the Buffs' offense one last time before he declares for the 2025 NFL draft.
Colorado's bowl game could be the last time Shedeur plays under his father.
