During conference championship week's "College GameDay," ESPN analyst Pete Thamel gave an upsetting update about Tyson's availability for the Sun Devils.

"Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson is out for the remainder of the season with an upper-body injury," Thamel said. "It's a huge loss for Arizona State. He had 75 catches for 1,100 yards. Arizona State's next leading receiver had 17 catches."

During his weekly news conference, Arizona State Sun Devils coach Kenny Dillingham revealed that Jordyn Tyson had undergone surgery on his upper body injury. He would be welcomed back next season.

“We’re looking forward to getting him back next year,” Kenny Dillingham said.

Jordyn Tyson will be hard to replace for Arizona State

The announcement by Kenny Dillingham about Jordyn Tyson was a huge blow for Arizona State as the No. 13 Sun Devils would miss his services for the crucial Big 12 championship game. That matchup will be against the No. 16 Iowa State Cyclones. At stake is an appearance in the expanded 12-team college football playoff.

During his weekly news conference, coach Kenny Dillingham detailed how the Sun Devils would deal with the loss of such a crucial member of the team.

“Time to move some people around. Time to get some more people on the field, create a little more balance offensively,” Dillingham said. “What makes it more difficult is that obviously, he (Tyson) demands two people to cover him. So, if people don’t have to demand two people, they can load the box. You got to find more creative ways to win those one-on-one matchups.”

Tyson was a transfer from the Colorado Buffaloes last season, during which he redshirted before having his breakout season. He led the Sun Devils to an incredible 10-2 record this season that has them within touching distance of the college football playoff.

This season, he played in 12 games, registering 1,101 receiving yards resulting in 10 touchdowns which rank him No. 10 in the FBS for both receiving yards and touchdowns.

The reliance that Arizona State has on Jordyn Tyson is shown by the Sun Devils' next leading receiver, Xavier Guillory, tallying 291 yards resulting in three touchdowns this season.
