Ryan Day's No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes lost their fourth consecutive game to eternal rivals, the Michigan Wolverines despite being 20.5-point favorites for the clash. The Wolverines were 6-5 for the season going into the game which they won 13-10 at the Ohio Stadium in Week 14 action to stretch Day's dismal record against them to 1-4.
During Tuesday's segment of "ESPN College Football," outspoken ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum spoke about Day's job security should he lose in the first round of the upcoming college football playoffs.
"The bottom line is he has to make a serious run Heather. First-round knockout, I'd fire him on the field before he gets to the midfield," Finebaum said. "I still think he probably oughtta go. This guy has been a very good coach, 66-10. But when you lose to your rival every single year, four straight. So we're talking about three revenge games and the same result happens, especially this year. It's time to start packing."
During Monday's segment of the "Matt Barrie Show," Finebaum roasted Ryan Day for his comments about the huge brawl that broke out after the Week 14 clash when Michigan players tried to plant the Wolverines flag on the Ohio Stadium field.
"Ryan Day comes up with just this idiotic statement," Finebaum said. "'We're not going to let them do that to our field,' try and beat them first and then you won't have to worry about that. … It happened all day long and all night, because these guys watch other games, but that's the one that gets me. If you're Ryan Day, keep your mouth shut."
Ryan Day's job security addressed
On Monday, after the loss to the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork spoke about Ryan Day's Buckeyes job security during an interview with the "Columbus Dispatch."
“Our full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run,” Bjork said. “We have a ton to play for. We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He’s our coach.
“Our program is built to last, and Coach Day has done that. He has put us in a great spot ... There will be time to dissect what happened in the game, but you’ve got to go back to work. When you focus on bigger goals and bigger picture, then you just have to keep working, and that was his spirit when I talked to him.”
Ryan Day has another chance to secure his job in the college football playoffs but he is on thin ice with Ohio State Buckeyes fans after his latest loss to an inconsistent Michigan Wolverines team.
