The Razorbacks had a disappointing season in 2023, as they went 4-8 and were 1-7 in SEC play. Although the Razorbacks struggled last year, Pittman has confidence in his team and has goals of winning the SEC championship.

At the SEC Media Days, Pittman was asked about the possibility of conferences getting rid of title games after the playoff expansion. Pittman said he isn't a fan of that.

"I'd like to get to the damn SEC title game," Pittman said.

Although Pittman wants to play in the SEC title game, oddsmakers aren't giving them much of a chance. Arkansas has the third-worst odds of playing in the SEC title game at +8000, which implies a 1.2% chance.

Sam Pittman on the hot seat entering 2024

After a disappointing 2023 season, Sam Pittman returned to Arkansas for his fifth year. Entering the 2024 season, he is on the hot seat and could be fired, but he says he doesn't worry about that. Instead, the focus is on getting the Razorbacks back into contention and becoming a premier program again.

"I don't [worry]," Pittman said, via 247Sports. "We have a good football team. The other thing is, it's never been about me. It's been about our kids, it's been about our facility, it's been about the state of Arkansas.
"I've been on several different staffs that got fired and everybody felt sorry for the head coach. Hell, the head coach got a buyout, he's got this, he's made a lot of money. It's never been about me, nor will it ever be about me. I want to win for the state of Arkansas and the kids and the coaching staff. That's really all I care about."

Pittman has a record of 23-25 in four seasons as the head coach of Arkansas and is 2-0 in bowl games.

The Razorbacks open their 2024 college football season on August 29 against Arkansas-Pine. Arkansas has notable games against Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas.
