LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had a minor setback during the Week 14 showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners. He took a big tackle by Oklahoma DE, R Mason Thomas, in the first quarter of the game. The quarterback exited the game to evaluate any possible injury after that hit.

After Garrett Nussmerier exited the game, he was replaced by backup quarterback AJ Swann. Swann began his collegiate journey with Vanderbilt as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. After two seasons, AJ Swann joined the LSU Tigers this year and has made only one appearance for the team during their loss to Florida.

However, fans did not have to worry about Garrett Nussmeier as he returned in the second quarter of the game. According to ESPN reporter Cole Cubelic, the quarterback had a strong message for head coach Brian Kelly about him continuing this game against the Sooners at home.

"(Garreett) Nussmeier came back in and saw an exchange between him and Coach Kelly and said, 'I am (expletive) throwing the football," Cubelic said about the quarterback.

Even Brian Kelly praised Garrett Nussmeier's resilience during an interview with Cubelic at halftime.

"He's a tough kid and he wants to be on this field," Kelly said. "It's his dream to play here at LSU. He was going to do whatever is necessary. His doctors looked at him and cleared him...he said, 'I can throw it, I can play.'"

So far, Nussmeier has thrown three touchdown passes to give LSU a commanding 31-17 lead over the Oklahoma Sooners at home. He is projected to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft next year.

What happened to Garrett Nussmeier?

During the first quarter of the LSU vs Oklahoma showdown, R Mason Thomas made a heavy tackle on the Tigers quarterback during his second play of the game. Nussmeier fell to the ground, landing heavily on his arm, leading to concerns of a possible arm injury.

The quarterback stayed on for a couple of minutes before being helped by the LSU medical staff. He then exited to the sidelines for further evaluation at the team's medical tent. After doctors cleared him, Nussmeier made his return in the second quarter of the game.

Garrett Nussmeier had an immediate impact after returning to the field, throwing a 40-yard TD pass to Chris Hilton Jr. to give the LSU Tigers a 24-17 lead at the end of the first half.

He then executed another 45-yard TD pass to Hilton in the third quarter, further putting strain on a comeback by the Sooners. It will be interesting to see if Brian Kelly's team can emerge victorious in their final regular season game.
