Kirby Smart shares his nervous moment with Nick Saban before SEC Media Days interaction

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart had a unique interaction with Nick Saban at SEC Media Days. Smart used to work under Saban, and then the two became rivals coaching against each other.

With Saban now retired and working on the media side, he called Smart to ask him some questions about Georgia. When he got the call, Smart said he still was nervous to talk to Saban.

"It's different. I'll tell you the most unique part. Lane (Kiffin) and I were sharing some texts, and he reached out to talk to us to prepare for the media day, and I still got nervous on the phone with him. I felt like I was still talking to my boss," Smart said on ESPN.
"I told Lane, he is still calling us asking us about our team, and I felt like I was sharing insider information or something. He's been a critical part of my career and so many coaches' careers. I'm just happy he's stayed involved in college football," he added.

It is funny that even though Saban is not his boss or coaching against him, Smart still gets nervous to talk to him. It shows the level of respect Smart has for Saban, and as he says, he is happy the legendary coach is still involved in college football.

Kirby Smart looking forward to a tough road schedule in 2024

Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs have a hard schedule in 2024, especially on the road.

Georgia will play Clemson, Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss away from campus, which could pose some problems for the Bulldogs. However, Smart says he and his team are looking forward to that challenge.

"We’ve got a good football team. We’ve got a very consistent football team. We say it all the time, we’re built to sustain at Georgia,” Smart said in an interview with Paul Finebaum, via Dawg Nation. “We don’t want to be a one-hit wonder. I think we’re going to have a good football team next year. I don’t know how good and I don’t know how we’ll play in some really tough road games. We’ll see where it falls..."
"We’re looking forward at what this team is gonna do,” Smart said. “How is this team going to play? Got a really tough schedule. I’m excited to get an opportunity to go out there and play.”

Georgia will open their season against Clemson on August 31.
