Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers has benefitted a lot from NIL deals over the past few years. He initially began his collegiate journey with Ohio State in 2021. After one season with the Buckeyes, Ewers joined Steve Sarkisian's team where he became the program's starting QB, earning more money through NIL.
According to On3, Quinn Ewers currently has an NIL valuation of $4.5 million, making him one of the top NIL college football athletes. But for Ewers, the best part about earning millions is the fact that he can repay his parents, especially his mom.
Ahead of Texas' Cotton Bowl Classic CFP semifinal showdown against Ohio State, Quinn Ewers was questioned about his NIL valuation during a press conference on Wednesday. The quarterback replied by talking about paying back his mom for bringing him up and helping him realize his dream:
"I get to pay my mom a salary which is nice, just cause, you know, all the effort and work they put into me growing up. I mean they both, when we were living in South Texas, they both quit their jobs and moved up to Southlake..... Even when I give back I can't describe how thankful I am for everything that they do for me."
The Texas quarterback has had a roller-coaster campaign this season in the SEC. His performances have been inconsistent and he missed a few games due to injury.
He did, however, play a big role during the Longhorns' 39-21 OT victory over Arizona State in the CFP quarterfinal game. Ewers recorded a total of 322 yards and three touchdowns in the Peach Bowl showdown against the Sun Devils.
Quinn Ewers reveals why he began his collegiate career with Ohio State
During an interview with On3 on Monday, the Texas QB revealed why he initially de-committed from the Longhorns to play for Ohio State. Ewers stated that it was mostly because of Texas' legislature restricting high school athletes from earning an income.
Quinn Ewers felt that joining Ohio State would be a big financial opportunity for him and his family, which is why he officially enrolled with them in August 2021.
"One of the main things was that the Texas legislature wasn't going to allow #txhsfb players to be paid." Ewers said. "Me and my family had a pretty big opportunity in front of us, we felt like it was a good decision for me to forego my senior year and enroll early at Ohio State. I had the opportunity to put some good money in our pockets as a family."
However, Ewers was redshirted during his freshman season, making just one appearance for the Buckeyes. He then joined the Longhorns for the 2022 season and has been their starting quarterback ever since.
Fans are eagerly awaiting his decision on whether to return for his final year of eligibility or declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
