“I’ll take that as a huge compliment”: Texas QB Quinn Ewers laughs off Luka Dončić comparison
Quinn Ewers (L) | Luka Doncic (R)

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers appeared on Robert Griffin III's "RG3 and The Ones" podcast, discussing his exciting journey in the college football world.

RG3 congratulated Ewers on his achievements, including being on the cover of EA Sports College Football 2. The conversation then turned humorous when RG3 compared Ewers to the Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic.

"At what point did you realize you were Luka Doncic's long-lost brother?" Griffin asked the Texas QB.

Ewers laughed, replying:

"I’ll take that as a huge compliment. Are you serious? That dude's balling. I'm from around Dallas, so we're down 3-1, but it was a good Game 4."
"I'm excited to watch tonight. I'm fired up. I think that you know no one's ever done it, but I'm not gonna count the Mavs out." [03:02]

Kudos to Ewers' optimism for Doncic and the Mavericks, but the Boston Celtics won the following Game 5, defeating the Mavs 106-88 and sealing the NBA Finals 4-1.

Quinn Ewers dials back on time at Ohio State

Steve Sarkisian’s first-choice QB is on the lookout for his breakout 2024 season, and try bolstering his stock for the NFL Draft. However, many forget that Ewers’ journey began at Ohio State, where he was the top recruit in the 2021 class.

Ewers played just one game for the Buckeyes, but his time in Columbus was impactful.

"I mean, I learned a whole lot through coach [Ryan] Day," Ewers shared on the “RG3 and The Ones" podcast.
"We had some good quarterbacks in that room. Just learning from them being the new guy coming in the middle of fall camp was definitely tough."

The former Buckeyes QB credited Day for his growth, even though he didn't get game time. The Ohio State HC has a reputation for developing good quarterbacks, such as Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud.

Ewers was no different, and Day left a positive impression on him. The experience was invaluable for the Longhorns QB despite the lack of playing time.

His move to Texas wasn't just about football, as the distance from home to school was giving Ewers a headache. The Texas QB found the perfect solution: transferring to the Longhorns under coach Sarkisian, a move that gave wings to his football career.
