Joey McGuire and his Texas Tech team will host Colorado on Saturday for a Week 11 Big 12 encounter. The matchup at Jones AT&T Stadium is crucial for both teams as they aim to boost their chances of making the conference championship game.
Speaking to the media on Monday, McGuire shared insights into Deion Sanders' personality. Having coached Deion Sanders Jr. in high school, McGuire got to witness firsthand the kind of father Coach Prime is, as well as his passion for his son's football career.
“Talking about Deion, one thing that I was always impressed with Deion is what kind of dad he is, what kind of dad he was,” McGuire said. “Being a high school coach, I dealt with a lot of helicopter parents, and he is the farthest thing.”
“We had a game against Desoto. It was on national stage. 12,000 people sold out. I asked him ‘Hey, do want me to make sure you got this place to sit?’ and he goes ‘Coach, I'm sitting in extra seats in the endzone, you don't have to worry about me but I'll be there to watch.’”
Joey McGuire previews Texas Tech's matchup against Colorado
Joey McGuire gave his opinion on the upcoming matchup between his team and Colorado on Monday. The Buffaloes have been impressive on the gridiron in recent weeks and hope to take the momentum to Lubbock this weekend. McGuire obviously knows what to expect.
"It won't come easy against Colorado who likely have the most dynamic offensive personnel that Tech has faced all season long and a defense that has continued to improve over the course of the season,” McGuire said.
"We've got our hands full. I mean, offensively, they're as good as anybody in the country," McGuire continued. "As good as Travis (Hunter) is, every single one of their receivers are big time players. And then defensively, they're playing really well."
Texas Tech is riding high after a huge victory against Iowa State in Ames over the weekend. The win over the undefeated Cyclones has thrust the Red Raiders back into the spotlight as the season draws closer to an end. Joey McGuire’s team will aim to keep that flag flying.
The Red Raiders, like the Buffaloes, still have an outside chance at the Big 12 championship game, and the matchup presents a lot of opportunities for both teams. A win for either of the two teams will be crucial for their postseason aspirations.
