Jim Harbaugh spent nine seasons as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. Last season, Harbaugh helped the Wolverines emerge as the undefeated national champions by defeating the Washington Huskies in the finals and securing a third consecutive Big Ten title.
After the Wolverines won the national championship in the 2023 season, Jim Harbaugh decided to pursue his second stint in the NFL. He joined the Los Angeles Rams as their new head coach this offseason. However, it was not easy for Harbaugh to leave behind the family he created over the years in Ann Arbor.
During an appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast on August 5, he opened up about the tough choice of leaving Michigan right after making it the best program in the country. He also shared the reasons behind his decision to take up the Rams head coaching job.
"Yeah, it was, all the players there, all the other guys we recruited," Harbaugh said while talking about the difficulty of leaving Michigan. "The coaches, you know, just everybody. Like, I love you guys."
"And there's another thing where, 'Okay, here's a challenge,'", Harbaugh said while talking about his Rams transition. "Here's somebody who likes what you do and how you do it. It's presenting you with this challenge, and whether it's a blessing or a curse, it's kind of always been in me, like let me see if I'm up to that."
During his nine-season stint with the Michigan Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh compiled a record of 89 wins and 25 losses.
New Michigan HC Sherrone Moore lays down game plan for post-Jim Harbaugh era
After Harbaugh's departure, former Michigan OC Sherrone Moore took his place as the new head coach. During the Big Ten Media Days, Moore came forward to talk about the team's mindset and objectives for their upcoming 2024 season.
"Win the big games, beat our rivals, beat Ohio State, win the Big 10, go to college football playoffs and win it. For us, that's something we strive to do," Moore said. "We're gonna do everything we can to strive for perfection. Everything we do, everything we do every day is a process, and we'll continue to strive to do that."
It will be interesting to see if Sherrone Moore can lead the Wolverines to win consecutive national titles and continue the legacy that Jim Harbaugh built in Ann Arbor.
