Michael Irvin is known for calling a flag on the play, and this time, it’s on Shannon Sharpe as he became a part of the Travis Hunter controversy. The conversation stirred up as Hunter’s fiancée, Leanna, became the subject of online backlash during Saturday’s Heisman ceremony.
Clips showed her looking less than thrilled to celebrate Hunter’s big moment, which led to plenty of online trolls firing shots her way.
As Sharpe stepped in to give her a word of advice, the Hall of Fame wideout wasn’t impressed. Irvin fired back online with his signature mix of passion and humor, accusing Sharpe of crossing the line.
“CODE VIOLATION NI**A!!!!!!! I love you to LIFE but STOP!!!!!” Irvin wrote, complete with prayer and flex emojis for emphasis.
Irvin’s reaction followed as Sharpe jumped into the conversation during his “Night Cap” show. Reacting to Leanna’s explanation, Sharpe tagged it as “excess oversharing” while also adding:
“I have a problem with her understanding," Sharpe added. "She's young, she doesn't understand what comes along with it, but I'm trying to enlighten her as somebody that's been in that space as somebody that understands it.”
Whether you’re Team Sharpe or Team Irvin on this one, the backlash has caused Leanna to make her Instagram account private. However, the couple, Travis Hunter and Leanna Lenne, reacted to the backlash in their own ways.

Travis Hunter wasn’t about to let the noise get to his fiancée. The Colorado star took the netizens up during a Twitch livestream, telling them to mind their own relationships.
“Find something else to talk about … go find a life,” Hunter said, doubling down on his five-year commitment to Lenee.
Meanwhile, Lenee addressed the controversy directly in an emotional TikTok video.
“When his name was called, I instantly was going to get up,” Lenee explained. “But if you watch the video, his mom didn’t get up, so I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I just sit here.’ As soon as I saw Travis get up, I stood up to congratulate him.”
Lenee went on to clarify her intentions, claiming that she didn’t want the unnecessary limelight.
“I got out of the camera shot on purpose because I knew how people online would twist the moment. I wanted it to be about him and his family.”
Despite her explanation, another video appeared soon after, that showed the Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders nudging Lenee to stand up when Hunter’s name was announced.
The moment added fuel to the fire, and while Hunter and Leanna might have tackled the situation in their own ways, the netizens are left guessing over the drama.
