Running back Charlie Offerdahl joined the Colorado Buffaloes in 2021. Although the No. 18 Buffaloes (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) are having success this year, that was not the case when Offerdahl arrived. Colorado had a 1-11 record in 2022, and it was challenging for the RB to stay mentally engaged.
However, he has stuck with the team and is being rewarded. After the 49-24 win vs. Utah Utes on Saturday, he thanked coach Deion Sanders for giving him the opportunity to score his first-ever college football touchdown.
“I mean, you know, first of all, all the glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," he said (via cubuffs.com). "I wouldn’t be here without him. And I sure wouldn’t be here without Coach Prime, and I got to give so much thanks to him, you know, I love him like a second father. And credit to the O line and my teammates. I love them. Love Buff nation.”
Offerdahl talked about the growth the Buffaloes had after the 2022 season.
“I mean, it's pretty special," he said. "You know that 1-11 season was very rough. All I can say is that The Buffs are back.”
Offerdahl is a former walk-on from Dakota Ridge High School (Littleton, CO). In 2022, he rushed for 150 yards. However, in 2023, his season was limited by injuries.
Colorado coach Deion Sanders praises Charlie Offerdahl
Deion Sanders spoke after the win over the Utah Utes on Saturday. When asked about the game, he said the highlight was seeing Offerdahl get his touchdown.
"My highlight of the game, though, is Charlie Offerdahl getting into the end zone," Sanders said. ... "He’s a 4.0 student. He's above board on everything, never on anybody's list, and helps everyone who ever endeavors to come to him for advice, for support, for knowledge outside as well as in the running back room. So thank God for Charlie.”
After the play, Offerdahl celebrated with his teammates before running to the sideline to embrace Coach Prime.
