Michigan Wolverines cornerback Will Johnson is gearing up for another season in Ann Arbor after winning the national championship last season. Despite all the changes that took place this offseason, including Sherrone Moore replacing Jim Harbaugh as the head coach, several veteran defensive players are returning for one more season.

Amid the offseason preparations, Will Johnson also took the time to host his second annual youth camp. At the camp, he spoke about how he believes he still has room for improvement in his performance despite winning the national championship last season.

Johnson also spoke about the importance of building chemistry with the team's new players and keeping the Wolverines culture intact. He stated that they know what their objectives are for the 2024 season and that they are 'ready' to achieve those goals.

"There's always more. I'm always hungry for more. Last year, I had a pretty good year, but I wasn't where I wanted to be at all. I got a lot more to shoot for this year and just be the best version of me I want to be.
"We're using this time right now tp be where we want to be, get in shape, get our mind right, bring that chemistry together and keep that culture where it is," Johnson said. "We got a lot of things to do to get ready for the season. But we know what we got ahead of us, and we're ready to attack it."

Last season, as a sophomore, Will Johnson put up an impressive performance for Michigan. One of his best defensive plays was during the natty finals against Washington, where he made an incredible interception on a pass by ex-Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr.

Will Johnson was named as the Defensive MVP for the national championship game. He was also recognized as a consensus First-Team All-Big Ten and honored as a First-Team All-American by Sports Illustrated.

Michigan defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan heaps praise on Will Johnson

LaMar Morgan was brought in from Louisiana this off-season as Michigan's new defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator. And so far, he has been impressed with what he's seen from Will Johnson both on and off the field.

Morgan heaped praise on Johnson's leadership skills and stated that he is always looking to get himself involved during practice. He described the cornerback as a 'freshman' who is still curious about every aspect of the game (via On3):

"Everybody sees Will Johnson on the field and the way he plays. But really if you're at practice, Will Johnson is like a freshman that just got there, an early enrollee, trying to earn his respect from his teammates.
"Everytime somebody makes a big play, if Will's not on the field, he's running into the end zone with everybody. He cares about his teammates. He's the ultimate teammate that I've ever been around."

Sherrone Moore has a tough task ahead of him as the head coach of the Wolverines. It will be interesting to see if he can help the program replicate the same success they had last year.
