Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns had an incredible debut campaign in the Southeastern Conference this season. They defeated the Clemson Tigers 38-24 in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Steve Sarkisian's team will face the Big 12 champions, Arizona State Sun Devils, in the Peach Bowl on Wednesday.
Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt spoke about the showdown on Saturday. The quarterback said that he feels confident about himself and his team and is looking forward to defeating Texas, which poses a threat to their natty dreams.
Leavitt also talked about Ewers.
"I watch him for a fair amount of time now," Leavitt said. "And I'm excited for this opportunity. People keep counting me out since Day 1, and I'm gonna prove why I'm the better quarterback. You know, that's how I feel since Day 1. I'm going to go put everybody on the map."
Leavitt began his collegiate career with the Michigan State Spartans last season. He appeared in four games and redshirted his freshman campaign before joining the Arizona State Sun Devils for their 2024 campaign.
He was named as the starting quarterback of the team after transferring. It proved to be a beneficial decision for the Sun Devils, who had a disappointing 3-9 campaign in the Pac-12 last season.
This year, Arizona State shocked everyone and emerged as the champion of the Big 12. Leavitt completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,663 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Quinn Ewers has blunt response to being potentially replaced by Arch Manning
Quinn Ewers has become a household name for the Texas Longhorns since joining the program in 2021. He still has a year of eligibility left, but fans and experts projected that Ewers will forego his final year of eligibility to declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
However, if Ewers decides to return to college football, there might be a chance that Arch Manning will replace him as the starting quarterback. On Saturday, when asked about this potential scenario, Ewers said:
"Yeah, I think over the past two years, he's definitely grown and matured for sure to be able to be successful at Texas."
Manning started for Texas this season when Ewers was rehabilitating from his injury. His two-way talents have already won the hearts of the Longhorns fanbase, recording 939 passing yards and 13 total touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if Steve Sarkisian will bring Manning onto the field in the Peach Bowl.
