Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter was sensational during the Colorado Buffaloes' Week 9 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats. He tallied 153 yards on nine receptions, resulting in two touchdowns while adding two tackles and four pass deflections to confirm the Buffs' bowl eligibility for the first time in eight years.
After the game, Hunter posted a picture on Instagram of himself with a caption that seemed to take a shot at Heisman Trophy favorite, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty gave an interview last week, saying he deserved the Heisman over Hunter due to his historic numbers.
Hunter's Instagram caption stated:
"I’m Making Records Not Chasing Them‼️ Travis Hunter wrote.
The Travis Hunter versus Ashton Jeanty feud
During an interview with YouTuber "Deestroying" last week, Ashton Jeanty spoke about his bid for the Heisman and why he believed he deserved it should he break the single-season rushing touchdown record (2,628 yards, 37 TDs) set by Barry Sanders in 1988.
He also took exception to Hunter speaking about his season not being all that special in a previous interview.
"Kudos to Travis, he's balling for real. He's doing some stuff we ain't ever seen nobody do. Personally, I don't take no offense to it. He's just speaking his opinion, everybody's got an opinion," Jeanty said. "For me, what I've been doing hasn't been done in 36, 37 years, so that's something special.
"If I keep that up and break a record that's been around for 36 years, I feel like you can't really compete with that. He is balling, but I just feel like what I'm doing is just too special."
During an interview on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII" podcast, Travis Hunter said why he deserved the Heisman over Jeanty, referencing his two-way status as the main reason.
"I don't know who is all there. You all see Ashton Jeanty, but it is not like we haven't seen a good running back that is good. We haven't seen a player that has played both ways, and I'm going to keep saying that," Hunter said.
Travis Hunter responded to an injury-interrupted few weeks with his stellar performance against the Cincinnati Bearcats to reignite the Heisman Trophy race as the season enters its homestretch.
