Deion Sanders and his Colorado team suffered a setback in college football Week 2 as they recorded a 28-10 loss to Nebraska in Lincoln. However, the Buffaloes have a big chance to bounce back in Week 3 as they travel to Fort Collins to play in-state rival Colorado State.
Despite the Week 2 result, college football analyst and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram remains a steadfast supporter of the team. The NFL legend continues to back Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes program, undeterred by the recent challenges.
"I'm still Sko Buffs! I'm still Sko Buffs, man!" Ingram said on the Triple Option Podcast.
Deion Sanders addresses fight song controversy
A Denver Sports report claimed Deion Sanders allegedly instructed the university’s marching band not to play the traditional fight song and instead have his son, Shedeur Sanders' song "Perfect Timing" play everytime he scores a touchdown.
The report fueled widespread debate among the media and fans, adding to the already intense spotlight on the Colorado football program under Sanders' leadership. However, Coach Prime responded to the controversy on Tuesday, outrightly denying the alleged claims by the report.
“Whoever reported that I told the band not to play the fight song, that's idiotic, ya'll know that," Coach Prime said during his press conference session on Tuesday.
"When you saw that you knew that was a lie. We've got to start having some kind of a accountability to this. I understand this is a free and open world, that not everybody is a journalist, everybody's not an analyst.”
Deion Sanders says he won’t go personal
Amid his recent cold war with the media, Deion Sanders said he refused to get offended and retaliate. However, the Colorado coach made it known that he had the power and enormous platform to do so if intends to do if he plans to.
“I never wanted to get personal,” Sanders said. “So, when it gets personal, you got to really think about that. You got to understand I have a huge platform I could really get personal if I wanted to, but I choose not to do that because that's not right.
''Some things in life is just not right, and I don't want to go there and I won't go there. But, think about it. Just my family alone, the platform is enormous. If we really wanted to go there, we could go there, but we would never do that. We weren't raised like that."
Following the Week 2 setback, Sanders seeks redemption in the Rocky Mountain Showdown in Week 3, one that he definitely needs, to avoid further media scrutiny. The Buffaloes defeated the Rams 43-36 in double overtime last season and will hope to repeat that feat.
