Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has unequivocally put an end to swirling speculations regarding his potential transition to the NFL coaching realm. Despite rumors suggesting a possible move, Sanders made his intentions crystal clear, affirming his steadfast commitment to Colorado.
In an interview with ESPN's Andrea Adelson, $45 million Sanders (via Celebrity Net Worth) adamantly said:
"I tell them the truth. I tell them I'm a father, not a baby daddy. I don't follow my kids. I pave roads for my kids. I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids. I don't follow my kids. So I do not plan on following my kids to the NFL. I have work to do here."
Expressing his genuine affection for Colorado, Sanders said:
"I absolutely love it here. It's beautiful here, especially yesterday it was. Knowing this weather is going to be beautiful tomorrow because we have no commitments on the field. So I absolutely, I'm serious, I absolutely love it here. I really do."
Sanders' sons, Shedeur and Shilo, are poised to begin their second season with the Buffaloes, hoping to improve their draft prospects. Shedeur, the quarterback, had an excellent 2023 season, amassing 3,320 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions, establishing himself as a frontrunner in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Meanwhile, Shilo, a safety, exhibited his prowess with 67 tackles, three passes deflected, four forced fumbles and an interception last season, hinting at a promising future in the NFL.
Despite Colorado's shaky 4-8 season in Sanders' inaugural year, the Buffaloes are poised for a turnaround in 2024.
With key returners like Shedeur, Shilo, and versatile player Travis Hunter, Colorado aims to achieve greater success.
Deion Sanders' optimism amid a damp Spring Game in Colorado
Colorado's football coach exhibited a brief yet determined showcase of football prowess during the second annual intrasquad spring game at Folsom Field, despite the cold and rainy conditions.
With an announced crowd of 28,424, including numerous no-shows, Deion Sanders voiced confidence in his team's potential.
"This team is good enough to go to a bowl game this year," he said.
Addressing the resilient crowd, Deion Sanders expressed gratitude and singled out Peggy Coppom, Colorado's 99-year-old superfan, vowing to secure a bowl game berth for her.
“I would be remiss not to start our season out … without acknowledging the beautiful Miss Peggy. Peggy, wherever you are, we love you. We appreciate you and our goal is we’re gonna get you to a bowl game lady," Sanders added.
Amid the unconventional scoring system, the offense triumphed over the defense, with Sanders' son, Shedeur Sanders, throwing the first touchdown to new transfer teammate LaJohntay Wester.
Reflecting on the team's progress, Deion Sanders highlighted the caliber of players and their aspirations for the NFL. Shedeur's performance garnered praise from his father, with him completing 10 of 14 passes and securing one touchdown.
"The progress that we’ve made is another caliber of player that’s playing – a player that truly expects to go to the next level, meaning the NFL," Sanders said.
Despite the abbreviated game and adverse weather, Sanders' optimism shone through, with hopes for a successful season ahead.
