“I really don’t make any money” - $14M worth Lane Kiffin once broke down his earnings after divorce with ex-wife Layla Liffin

Lane Kiffin has had his fair share of controversy in college football but has never been shy about discussing those in the open. In a Sports Illustrated feature back in 2016, Kiffin opened up about his financial struggles post-divorce, despite his impressive $14 million net worth (as per Celebrity Net Worth).

The former Alabama offensive coordinator didn’t hold back, revealing the harsh realities of his earnings after taxes, agent fees and divorce settlements.

“I figured it out. I really don’t make any money,” Kiffin lamented. “I pay around 52% in taxes. Layla gets 34.5% in the divorce, and [agent Jimmy Sexton] gets 3%. I make [about] 9% and I’m living in Tuscaloosa.”

It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially when you consider Kiffin’s rocky tenure at Alabama, which ended in a dramatic split just before the National Championship Game.

At the time, his ex-wife Layla Kiffin was living in Manhattan Beach, California, with their three children. The rent of that house was mentioned to be $10,000 per month in that same feature piece.

The high-profile college football coach and his wife Layla Kiffin called it quits in 2016 after over 12 years of marriage. The couple’s split was described by Lane as a mutual decision.

In 2016, the couple’s decision to part ways was announced by Lane Kiffin, then Alabama’s offensive coordinator:

“After a lot of careful thought and consideration, Layla and I have mutually decided to divorce,” Lane said. “We are fully committed to our kids' future being our No. 1 priority. We will maintain an amicable relationship with respect for each other as we raise these three wonderful children.”

Layla, who had gained recognition through her marriage to Lane, has since chosen a life away from the public eye.

Layla Kiffin is the daughter of the late Thomas Johnson Reaves, a renowned American football player, who played for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, etc.

Despite her connections to football royalty, Layla has maintained a low profile post-divorce. Now residing in Manhattan, Layla Kiffin focuses on raising their two daughters and son, away from the CFB world
