The Texas Longhorns have an exciting college football program heading into this season, with quarterback Quinn Ewers deciding to return for another season. The Longhorns made the playoffs in their last campaign and are joining the Southeastern Conference this year.
Ewers is going to be the team's starting quarterback while freshman Arch Manning will continue to learn from the backup position. Talking to On3 about Manning, Ewers said:
"Not being from the state and coming in, it's obviously a little different. I think he's got more time to grow his pride and love for the university. ... Being able to sit back and watch, it's different than playing. So him seeing kinda what's going on from inside but also outside, he can gain a lot of intel from that."
Ewers also believes that another season as a backup will help Manning understand the intricacies of the position:
"And then, obviously, another year to learn the offense and just get more comfortable within the smaller details. It's like the best situation for him, I think."
Will the Texas Longhorns make the playoffs this season?
The Texas Longhorns have been one of the more exciting teams in college football but lost a lot of skill position talent through the 2024 NFL draft. However, they are still expected to do well enough to make the playoffs once again. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the team is -250 to make the CFP and +190 to miss it.
Having one of the best 1-2 punches at the quarterback position erases a lot of worries. However, their schedule is going to be a difficult one with games at Michigan and at home against Georgia. If they win all their other games but fall short in the SEC Championship, they can still be one of the top 12 seeds.
