Michigan Insider roasts Ohio State HC for creating championship hype without enough weapons

Sam Webb, a Michigan insider, has taken aim at Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. As a guest in the Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday, Webb shared his belief that Day has created too much hype for Ohio State without enough proof that he can coach the team to a championship.

Webb believes Day has always found an excuse for why the Buckeyes have lost to the Wolverines in the past three years. But going into 2024, with his team as one of the favorites to win the national championship, Webb believes Day has to live up to the expectations set for him.

"I think Ryan Day is a walking excuse. He may not say it explicitly, but the vibe he gives off, the vibe, the fan base, I think parrots for him. There's always a reason that they haven't achieved championship success. There's a reason that Michigan has beaten up on them the last three years. It's everything but Michigan was just better. You know, it was the elements the first year weren't to their favor," Webb said.

He added:

"You had a few bad plays and new defensive coordinator the second year, and last year they want to put it on the signs even though the sign stealer guy wasn't around the second half of the season. So yeah, no excuses this year."

Sam Webb thinks Ryan Day will be fired if Ohio State doesn't win the championship

Ohio State had a massive offseason, landing key players like Caleb Downs, Will Howard and Quinshon Judkins in the transfer portal to build up their roster.

As such, the pressure is on Day as Webb thinks that he could be fired if Ohio State loses another title run.

"They had the most success in the portal. They have an outstanding recruiting class... all the excuses have been removed, so he should win. I think, Buckeye fans know, if he doesn't, they're gonna be looking for a new coach," he said.

Ohio State will host Michigan on November 30 at noon Eastern. Although the season hasn't started, odds have been released for the game and the Buckeyes are 10-point favorites, setting an expectation that they will win with ease.
