Carson Beck’s performance against Texas on Saturday night has caught a lot of criticism. The quarterback completed 23 of 41 passes in the game for 175 yards with no touchdown while throwing three interceptions. This added to what has been an unimpressive season for him.
Former scout John Middlekauff gave his view on how fast Carson Beck’s draft stock is declining while there’s still a lot to play in the season. A host of analysts and experts are now considering him outside the first round, which wasn’t the case during the offseason.
“I can't just with a straight face pick Georgia to win the Natty, I don't trust the quarterback,” Middlekauff said. “I don't think he's that good… I had someone text me and he's like ‘I don't remember a guy losing millions this fast.’ We're not even on Halloween and everyone's like ‘Oh! Can't draft this guy.”

Carson Beck owns his performance against Texas
Carson Beck's performance against Texas was underwhelming, especially in a crucial game. However, the quarterback took responsibility for his play following the game on Saturday night, expressing a commitment to get better in the coming games.
"I was just off the entire game," Beck said. "I was just off. That's really difficult. Not to say that games like that are going to happen, but I can't control everything. I can control what I can control. I got to go back and watch a film. I got to get better. I got to be better for this team.”
“It was a great day for our defense to show up the way that they did considering the way that I played. The offense can be so much better. To come on the road and win and while not playing our best game is a huge testament to our team.”
So far this season for Georgia, Beck has completed 165 of 250 passes for 1,993 yards and 15 touchdowns. He boasts just 66.0% pass completion and has already thrown eight interceptions this season, exceeding his 2023 total (6).
Kirby Smart defends Carson Beck’s performance against Texas
While many are not pleased with Carson Beck's outing in Austin on Saturday, Kirby Smart has a different feeling. The coach defended the quarterback in his postgame press conference, noting that the drops by his receivers contributed to the overall struggle.
"I don't agree with that," Smart said. "I'm not saying he played perfect. He played pretty good. Everybody will look at stats, and they'll have things to say, and we'll keep on playing with Carson Beck."
Beck was a Heisman Trophy frontrunner and a projected first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft during the offseason. He significantly dropped in consideration for both. It's to be seen how the quarterback rescues the situation in the remaining part of the season.
