Steve Sarkisian, who will face the spotlight in the 2024 college football season as the Texas Longhorns gear up to play in the Southern Eastern Conference, has said that he doesn't believe in panic recruiting.
Sarkisian has been a part of conversations since last year for several reasons, one being Texas' quarterback room, which includes talent powerhouses like Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.
Another reason is the Longhorns' comparitively slower recruitment process in the last two months, especially during the fourth of July weekend, which is considered among the most important recruiting weekends in the offseason.
While programs like Alabama and Georgia are receiving commitments from various five-star recruits, Sarkisian has lost big-time targets like Zion Williams, Dakorien Moore and Riley Pettijohn. Steve Sarkisian talked about the dry recruiting spell.
"I've never been one to panic in recruiting," Sarkisian said at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention on Monday.
"I think history kind of shows we usually close pretty good as we get into the season, as we get into December. I do believe a lot of times in the summer right now, a lot of recruiting is kind of the hype machine. But you actually have to put the product on the field. You have to play; you have to perform. ... so we kind of believe in our process. "
Steve Sarkisian weighs in on quarterback competition at Texas
Owing to Arch Manning's famous last name, many fans were excited to see him get on the field during his second year at Texas, given that Quinn Ewers had declared for the 2024 NFL draft.
However, Ewers decided to come back for another year, which means Manning won't be starting for the Longhorns this time unless Ewers is injured. There was a lot of transfer portal chatter around Arch Manning, but he has made his intentions to stick with the Longhorns.
During the 2024 SEC Media Days, Sarkisian addressed the quarterback situation at Texas and talked about how both QBs are important for the upcoming season:
"We're probably going to need both those guys at some point this season."
Fams will be interested to see how Steve Sarkisian's Texas performs during their first year in the SEC.
