Bryce Underwood has made a huge decision regarding his college commitment. The five-star QB from Belleville High School has originally committed to the LSU Tigers in January. However, he has now flipped his commitment and decided to join the Michigan Wolverines to start his college career.
The No.1 recruit of the 2025 class decided to play under the guidance of Sherrone Moore, believing it would be beneficial for his development and football future. Underwood shared the news of his commitment flips through a video edit on social media.
The video featured highlights from the quarterback's time at Belleville High School, including some of his best plays. It also included a clip of a young Bryce Underwood expressing how he wanted to play for the Michigan Wolverines, thus announcing his commitment.
"I want to bring my talent to the Michigan Wolverines," Underwood says in the video.
The Michigan Wolverines have not been having a great season under new coach Sherrone Moore. After winning the natty last year, they are struggling to even qualify for the Bowl games this season. One of the main drawbacks for Moore's team has been in the quarterback position.
In October, Jack Tuttle announced his decision to retire because of health concerns. This left the Wolverines with Davis Warren and Alex Orji as options in the QB depth chart. However, both of them have been struggling to be productive in the field with their offensive plays.
The Michigan Wolverines are currently 5-5 (3-4 Big Ten Conference) with two games remaining in the regular season. Even if Sherrone Moore's debut with the program does not end the way he wanted, securing Bryce Underwood provides him with the talented quarterback to lead the offense next season.
What could losing Bryce Underwood mean for the LSU Tigers
Losing Bryce Underwood to the Michigan Wolverines proves to be a big hit for Brian Kelly and his team. According to Death Valley Voice's Nicholas Rome, this situation will have an impact on the program as a whole.
Rome predicted that the de-commitment of Underwood would result in the firing of many from Brian Kelly's coaching staff.
"As LSU suffered loss after loss, members of the fanbase have asked for changes to be made like Joe Sloan and Cortez Hankton. As Sloan loses the Nation's top quarterback and Hankton is on the verge of losing top recruits again, the Co- Offensive Coordinators may not be able to recruit their way out of the bad season they've had on offense," Rome wrote.
The five-star QB becomes the first No.1 prospect to commit to the Wolverines since 2016 when they secured Rashan Gary. It will be interesting to see if the addition of Underwood helps Sherrone Moore's team secure another national championship next season.
