Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty cemented his status as a Heisman contender with a thrilling performance in the Mountain West Conference championship game against the UNLV Rebels. He scored a 75-yard touchdown while rushing for 209 yards to help the Broncos win the game 21-7 and clinch a berth in the 12-team college football playoff.

Jeanty's 75-yard touchdown was his fifth touchdown of 70+ yards this season which matched LaDainian Tomlinson's FBS record. Jeanty is only 131 yards away from breaking former Oklahoma State Cowboys running back Barry Sander's rushing record (2,628 yards).

During the Mountain West Conference game, FOX analyst Brock Huard made a huge claim regarding Ashton Jeanty deserving the Heisman Trophy over current favorite, Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter.

“To me … if only coaches voted, Ashton Jeanty would win the Heisman,” Huard said. “I really fully believe that. They know. Travis Hunter’s the most spectacular, most dynamic player. But the best player, who’s elevated his team to a championship and a playoff and a bye is that guy. And I love Travis Hunter.”

Huard made the case for Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel too. He asked voters to wait for the end of conference championship weekend before casting their votes.

“I said it earlier, if you already voted and you’re a Heisman voter … just don’t vote ever again. It just makes no sense to me,” Huard said. “Get every data point for all of these guys – for Dillon tomorrow. Get every data point you can.”

Ashton Jeanty makes his case for the Heisman

During Friday's interview on ESPN, Ashton Jeanty made his case for the Heisman Trophy while also choosing to focus on his team's chances of success during the postseason.

"I feel like I'm the best player in the country," Jeanty said. "I've put that on notice every single week, and it's just the same thing. I take it week by week. If I'm picked to win [the Heisman], I win. But my focus right now is going out and playing my best football for my teammates and coaches and winning a championship."

The four finalists for the Heisman Trophy will be announced on Monday, with the award ceremony taking place in New York on December 14. According to BetMGM, Ashton Jeanty has +3,000 odds of winning the prize, while Travis Hunter has -10,000.
