Nick Saban misses niece’s wedding due to Game Day schedule conflict

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban recently shared on “College Gameday” that he had to skip his niece’s wedding because it clashed with an Alabama game.

Last year, he also turned down an invite to his best friend’s daughter’s wedding, which fell just one day before Alabama’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Michigan.

According to Bleacher Report, Saban’s niece’s wedding, scheduled for Aug. 29, fell right as Saban’s focus shifted to the field—just ahead of the typical early September season start for most teams. The closest Alabama season opener to that date was in 2019 when they beat Duke 42-3 in Atlanta on Aug. 31.

After wrapping up his legendary coaching career in 2023, Saban joined ESPN, closing a chapter that saw him lead Alabama to seven national titles over 17 seasons. At 72, with 50 years of coaching under his belt, he’s still firmly in the game—albeit now only from the studio.
