The Indiana Hoosiers had a season that will forever be remembered. The usual bottom feeders of the Big Ten were able to go 11-1 in the regular season, which won them a spot in the newly expanded College Football Playoff.
In the first round of the playoff, the Hoosiers faced state rivals the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday night. They were unable to win this game, being outplayed by the Fighting Irish. In response to the defeat, college football analyst Joel Klatt wrote the following on social media:
"My frustration is that this is a moment to celebrate our sport and focus on these incredible players, coaches, fans, and environments...Instead, we devolve into partisan BS."

This was a historic moment for everyone. For Indiana, it was their first-ever game in the College Football Playoff and a reward for what has been a fantastic season for them.
For college football fans in general, this game was the first-ever game in the expanded 12-team playoff, held on a college campus, featuring one of the sport's most well-known programs in Notre Dame.
However, due to the performance of the Hoosiers in this game, some groups of fans were not happy with their inclusion in the first place. This is the "partisan BS" that Klatt refers to in his post.
Most of this came from fans of the SEC, who believe that despite numerous teams in the conference having a worse record than Indiana, they would have been a better opponent for Notre Dame in terms of an entertaining matchup.
Lane Kiffin on the Indiana game
One SEC coach who agrees that the Indiana Hoosiers may not have been the best pick for the College Football Playoff was Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin. After the game finished, Kiffin posted the following on social media:
"Really exciting competitive game @CFBPlayoff 🧐. Great job!!"
Making the playoffs competitive and more exciting was a reason why many people were looking forward to the expanded 12-team playoff.
However, games like that were seen last night, while giving teams an opportunity to play an important game is not going to excite many neutral fans.
The same can be said for the game between SMU and Penn State, with the Mustangs being the surprise team in this case. Penn State is up 28-0 at halftime, leading Kiffin to post this:
"Way to keep us on the edge of our seats Committee …. Riveting."
For Kiffin and many others, the playoff so far has not lived up to expectations.
