Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders faced criticism at the beginning of the season when the Buffaloes lost to Nebraska in Lincoln, and he was outplayed by Cornhuskers QB Dylan Raiola in Week 2 of college football action.
Since then, the talented Buffs quarterback has led his team to three wins in a row, culminating in Week 5's blowout 48-21 win against the UCF Knights.
As a result, the Buffaloes have become one of the Big 12's top teams and the Week 7 clash against the Kansas State Wildcats is tabbed as one of the games of the weekend.
Ahead of the game, analyst Joel Klatt spoke about Shedeur's brilliance and what charismatic coach Deion Sanders has to do to unlock it against the Wildcats (32:16).
"If they can continue to be effective running the football, and I'm not saying they need to be a juggernaut on the ground. Control backside defenders, create width to the defensive front, create conflict among the linebackers, then what happens is, Shedeur Sanders is more protected when they wanna throw the football," Klatt said.
"When he's protected, he becomes a nightmare to defend because they've got one of the best receiver corps in the country. Jimmy Horn, Will Sheppard, LaJohntay Wester and of course Travis Hunter, they've got elite players on the outside and if you give Shedeur a little bit of time, he will hurt you."
Shedeur Sanders gets praise from Kansas State coach
During his weekly news conference, Kansas State Wildcats coach Chris Klieman revealed his admiration for Sanders based on the film he has watched of the Colorado quarterback.
"There's a lot of concerns that we have, obviously," Klieman said. "[If you] go over to the offensive side, I think [Shedeur] Sanders will be the first quarterback picked off the board. He should be – in the film that I've seen of a lot of the top [NFL prospect] guys, I think he's an excellent thrower," Klieman said.
"You can't really confuse him. I've seen a lot of different teams try to manipulate coverage in disguise. And he does a really good job pre-snap to post-snap. And he can make all the throws and has a lot of guys to throw the football to."
The Kansas State Wildcats are 4.5-point favorites for the clash against Colorado but as long as the Buffaloes have Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in their ranks, they will always have a chance.
