This season did not go as expected for cornerback Will Johnson and the Michigan Wolverines, the defending National Champions. The Wolverines (7-5) could not make the college football playoffs. The ReliaQuest Bowl will pit them against No. 11 Alabama.
Despite a difficult season severely impacted by injuries, Johnson is one of the top prospects. He is projected to be a high pick that could go in the top 10 or even top five of the 2025 NFL draft. On Wednesday, he made it official by announcing that he is declaring for the 2025 NFL draft.
While Johnson thanked his former coach Jim Harbaugh and several other coaches, he did not mention this year's head coach, Sherrone Moore. Fans took notice of this and reacted.
"It's interesting that he doesn't mention Coach Moore," one fan wrote.
"Draft is gonna be decent this year. So many joining in last few days. I love it," one fan commented.
"Shocking news—another Michigan player going pro. Never saw that coming," one fan added.
Other fans commented that they think Johnson will be a high pick and could be a real deal in the NFL.
"He will be a top 15 draft pick. Stock hardly slid. He’s the real deal," one fan wrote.
"Best corner in the game. His pick in the natty changed the game," one fan commented.
"Will Johnson is an elite prospect and a Day 1 NFL starter. He’s as close to a sure thing as you can get in an NFL Draft prospect," one fan added.
When will Will Johnson get picked in the 2025 NFL draft?
Before the 2024 college football season, Will Johnson was viewed as a possible candidate to be taken first overall. However, injuries limited his availability this season. Thus, it is highly unlikely that he will go that high. However, most mock drafts still project him as a top-10 pick.
On Monday, ESPN released an updated mock draft which predicted all 32 first-round picks. Based on the current NFL standings, ESPN predicts that Will Johnson will get drafted eighth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-10).
The Jaguars have had some success since drafting quarterback Trevor Lawrence first overall in 2021, but defense has been an issue. Drafting Johnson would be a big step in that direction.
