Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has started to acclimatize to the league and pull away in the Rookie of the Year debates. In the Fever's 95-86 win against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, she registered 20 points, six rebounds and 13 assists.
Her former Iowa Hawkeyes teammate, Jada Gyamfi, could not contain her excitement after the explosive performance. On Instagram, Gyamfi praised the Fever rookie for one of her clutch plays during the game.
Gyamfi, who has a close relationship with Clark, reposted a slow-moving graphic of the WNBA rookie after making a shot and celebrating with a cheeky face to the crowd.
"Stank face CC," Gyamfi wrote.
Caitlin Clark continues to break records
Last week, Caitlin Clark became the only rookie alongside Angel McCoughtry to have registered 20+ points and 10+ assists in a WNBA game.
Against the Phoenix Mercury, she became the only rookie to have ever done it twice and did it in back-to-back games. She wasn't done breaking records, becoming the only rookie to have registered 400 points, 150 assists and 100 rebounds in a season.
Against the Washington Mystics, Clark also became the first player in the league's history to register 25 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, five steals and five made 3-pointers.
Against the New York Liberty, Clark registered 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists to lead her team to an 83-78 win. She also became the first rookie in WNBA history to register a triple-double.
After the game against the Mercury, Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides was full of praise for Clark during her postgame news conference. She detailed her passing ability, marveling at some audacious passes the rookie executed.
"She's got the ability to draw, you know, several defenders and she has got a crazy eye for her teammates and where they are, and moving, and she's able to make passes that some people (can't)," Sides said. "In the first half, my gosh, she dropped a couple to our post players. I don't know who could have made that pass. That's just what she's capable of."
Caitlin Clark might have had an adjustment period to the WNBA, where her stat lines did not always look pretty. But she seems to have found her rhythm now, and the player that fans knew at Iowa is once again in full flow.
