Ashton Jeanty is healthy and ready to play for the number 17 Boise State Broncos (4-1) when they travel to Hawaii to take on the Rainbow Warriors (2-3) on Saturday at 11 p.m. ET.
Although Jeanty plays a position prone to injuries, he has been able to avoid any significant harm this season and will be available on Saturday. This is fortunate for the Broncos as he is the most vital piece of the offense. The team has risen in the rankings throughout the season, helped largely by the huge performances of Ashton Jeanty.
However, head coach Spencer Danielson does not want his team to get complacent. The Broncos have done a good job of handling their opponents, but Danielson knows more work needs to be done if the team wants to make the playoffs. He spoke to reporters on Friday:
“We’re going to get Hawaii’s best football they’ve played all year Saturday night and we are working hard to make sure they see ours and whatever that looks like at the end of the game, it looks like that. But we know we’re going to get their best and we’ve got to earn the right to give ours, too.”
The Broncos have won three straight games since its only loss to the season which came against the number three ranked Oregon Ducks 37-34 in Week 2. Danielson spoke about preparing his team for whoever the opponent is and not overlooking anyone.
"That’s what this team is about, is what you do in practice is what you’ll do in a game.
"We know we’re playing a really good Hawaii team and we’ve got to deal with the flight, the distractions, the beach, the time change — there are a lot of things that are against us — and they’ve played teams extremely well off the island, but even more on the island, so it’s a battle for us.
"They have the top-ranked defense in our conference; we’ve got to come ready to play in all three phases.”
How has Ashton Jeanty helped Boise State succeed this season?
Ashton Jeanty has quickly become one of the best players in college football this season. He was viewed as a good player before, but not a superstar. However, after the first six weeks of the season, Jeanty has become the favorite for the Heisman Trophy with +240 odds at FanDuel. He edges out Colorado's two-star Travis Hunter who has +360 odds.
Through the first five games of the season, Ashton Jeanty has 95 carries for 1031 yards and six touchdowns. Additionally, he has had a run of 64 yards or longer in every game. If he keeps up this pace, he could threaten to break the all-time rushing yards record.
