Rumors have swirled around Florida Gators coach Billy Napier for most of the season. Many fans have been calling for him to be fired since last season when the team went 5-7. Even more fans have gotten on board with the idea this season with the team falling to expectations. However, Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin released a statement today on Napier's status as coach.
Is Billy Napier fired?
No, Billy Napier has not been fired as the head coach of the Florida Gators. In fact, Scott Stricklin confirmed his confidence in Napier, releasing this statement:
"Gator Nation, I wanted to let you know that Billy Napier will continue as head football coach of the Florida Gators.
"As we've seen these past several weeks, the young men on this team represent what it means to be a Gator. Their resolve, effort and execution are evident in their performance and growth each week - building a foundation that promises greater success next season and beyond.
He continued his statement on Napier, saying:

What is next for Billy Napier and the Florida Gators?
With Napier confirmed to remain as the coach of the Gators (4-4) for the foreseeable future, it will be interesting to see what comes next. The team will face No. 5-ranked Texas on Saturday before closing its season with games against No. 14-ranked LSU, No. 16-ranked Ole Miss and Florida State.
The team will likely not make the CFP, so it will need to make adjustments in the offseason and come back stronger next season in what could be a make-or-break one for Napier.
