Last week, Kent State quarterback, Devin Kargman was hospitalized after a hard hit during the game against the Penn State. His backup, JD Sherrod, also suffered an injury later in the game. This left the Golden Flashes relying heavily on the ground game, and the team lost, 56-0.
JD Sherrod Injury update
Sherrod tore his Achilles in the second quarter, which ended his season. SB Nation reports that he will be out for the year.
What happened to JD Sherrod?
Kent State starting quarterback Devin Kargman was injured on the second play of the game, requiring a stretcher to leave the field with a hip injury.
JD Sherrod stepped in and ended up with a torn Achilles in the second quarter after a non-contact ankle injury. He needed assistance to leave the field and was later seen in a walking boot and on crutches.
Tommy Ulatowski entered the game as the third quarterback, but he struggled and finished the game without completing a pass. It’s a tough break for the team, but the Golden Flashes look to bounce back in future games.
When will JD Sherrod return?
After getting tackled in the backfield, JD Sherrod was helped off the field, becoming the second quarterback for Kent State to suffer a major injury during the game. He tore his Achilles, and according to coach Kenni Burns:
“He’ll be a guy rehabbing as well,” Burns said. “We’re excited to get him healthy and back around the team as well, but that’s two really good players that we won’t have for the rest of the season.”
This means that junior Tommy Ulatowski will step up as the starting quarterback for the upcoming Week 5 matchup against Eastern Michigan University.
The first MAC game for Kent State and Eastern Michigan will take place Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EDT at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Kent State Radio Network.
