Former Heisman winner Desmond Howard highlighted Travis Hunter’s performance and thinks the Colorado Buffaloes player could win the Heisman trophy this season. Howard shared this opinion on ESPN’s College GameDay, saying:
“Travis Hunter is in the pole position when it comes to Heisman candidates. I mean, you know, he’s a very unique talent. He’s a unicorn. He’s doing a lot of things that we haven’t seen before. On top of that, he came on GameDay very humble, just enjoyed his energy."
“So, right now, a lot of football is left to be played, but right now, I think that this guy right here is in the pole position,” he added.
There are still some games left in the season, but Travis Hunter is believed to have a strong case for the Heisman Trophy over other contenders like Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Former Vikings star skeptical of Travis Hunter’s chances in the NFL
As the highly anticipated game between the Colorado Buffaloes and the Kansas Jayhawks draws closer, increased attention has been placed on players from both teams.
Travis Hunter has been a media favorite for much of 2024, with numerous analysts and sports personalities considering him the potential top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
However, some have expressed opinions contrary to the general hype. One question that has come up repeatedly is Hunter’s future in the NFL. Specifically, his ability to play on both sides of the ball.
Travis Hunter is a two-way player, playing both cornerback and wide receiver. This has brought him a lot of praise but Hunter’s plan to play both positions in the NFL has also brought criticism.
Former Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson shared his thoughts on whether Hunter would be able to play two positions in the NFL.
“I think he can, but it’s going to come down to how much he can do it and at what level. Now, he’s playing at the college level, 140 snaps. At what rate can he do both?” Peterson said.
Even if Hunter is able to pull it off, it may affect his longevity and perhaps put a ceiling on his potential.
