The No. 1 Texas Longhorns will clash against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday. But will Quinn Ewers take the field? The star quarterback was listed as questionable in Wednesday night’s injury report.
Coming off a dominant 51-3 victory over ULM last Saturday, Texas will hope to carry that momentum forward.
Quinn Ewers injury update
Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian says quarterback Quinn Ewers has been listed as questionable ever since his oblique injury. Ewers missed the previous game against Louisiana-Monroe, and Sarkisian remained cautious about his return during this week’s press conference.
"He's got to do enough to show me he can play," Sarkisian said [H/t 247 Sports]. "We've got a game plan. Can he execute the game plan? I hate to pare it down to that, but that's really the truth."
Sarkisian explained that Ewers’ readiness will be evaluated day by day. The coach focuses on Ewers' ability to operate at full strength and ensure the QB is prepared for game day.
What happened to Quinn Ewers?
Quinn Ewers was injured in the second quarter of the game between the Longhorns and UTSA Roadrunners on Sept. 14. Texas comfortably won that game 56-7. Ewers headed to the sideline and then the locker room for evaluation. He later returned in street clothes.
Ewers' oblique strain occurred on a non-contact play, a 49-yard pass to tight end Gunnar Helm.
When will Quinn Ewers return?
Texas star QB Quinn Ewers has been listed as "questionable," meaning there's no surety whether he’ll hit the field. Coach Sarkisian played it safe when asked what Ewers needs to focus on in practice to feel ready for his return.
Over the past 11 days, the Texas coach emphasized that he’s not concerned about Ewers overdoing it or putting himself or the team in a tough spot. Right now, there’s a slim chance fans will see him play.
