The controversy over the Michigan Wolverines planting the flag after defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes continued Wednesday, moving into the world of politics.

State representative Josh Williams has proposed the "O.H.I.O Sportsman Act" which would make planting a flag on the 50-yard line a felony in the state.

"I am proud to introduce the O.H.I.O Sportsmanship Act to make flag planting at midfield a felony in the state of Ohio. Behavior that incites violent brawls and puts our law enforcement officers in danger has no place on the football field," Williams tweeted.

Here is how college football fans responded to this proposal on social media.

These fans think the law is not genuine and a source of parody.

"This has to be satire right? That or the absolute softest and biggest waste of a representative’s time," one fan wrote.
"Had to check multiple times to make sure this wasn't parody lol you should be embarassed," another fan posted.

These fans believe the law is not needed, as there are more pressing issues for a politician to handle.

"you know the country has bigger issues, right?" a fan wrote.
"Sir, our country’s $36 trillion in debt. What are we doing here?" another fan posted.
"You shouldn’t have a job in public service. Ohio got a few other issues, boss," a third fan wrote.

These fans came up with their own solution to stop flag-planting in Ohio stadiums.

"Just win as a 23 point favorite next time," a fan wrote.
"Or you could beat the barely bowl eligible Michigan team," another fan posted.
"This is 110% embarrassing. Maybe if Ohio State could play a competitive game against a rival, Michigan wouldn’t plant a flag," a third fan wrote.

Body cam footage of the flag-planting brawl has been released

The proposed law appears to be a knee-jerk reaction to the then-No. 2-ranked Buckeyes losing 13-10 at home to the unranked Wolverines on Nov. 30, and the subsequent brawl that took place between the two teams after the Wolverines attempted to plant their flag.

The brawl also involved the police, who used pepper spray.

On Tuesday, further details, including body camera video, of the police's response were released. According to the footage, the police were advised to "hold the 50 (yard line)" and attempted to keep the two teams apart.

But the camera footage also gives further evidence surrounding the general anger around the flag-planting incident, which has lead to the law proposed by Josh Williams.

A member of the Ohio State staff can be seen getting angry and saying:

"They're not (expletive) planting a flag on our field. (Expletive) that (expletive). (Expletive) those guys."

This incident highlights the bad blood between the rival schools.
