Howard spent his first five seasons of eligibility with the Kansas State Wildcats, where he was able to make his way up the ranks and lead the program for two years.

During that period, Howard led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship in 2022 and to a respectable 9-4 record in 2023.

However, Howard felt that playing for Kansas State would not maximize his chances of making it into the NFL. To boost it, Howard decided to transfer to the Ohio State Buckeyes, who needed a new quarterback after Kyle McCord struggled and left the program.

This decision has paid off for Will Howard as he has thrown for a career-high 2,685 yards and 26 touchdowns, which has been pivotal to the Buckeyes' success.

Heading into their game with the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State has a 10-1 (7-1 Big Ten) record and one win away from making the conference championship game against the No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks (11-0, 8-0).

Howard has received praise for his leadership and performances from Ohio State coach Ryan Day. Day spoke about Howard in the run-up to the important game with the Wolverines.

“He wants to win this one in the worst way," Day said on Tuesday, via WBNS 10TV. "I have been very impressed with his leadership, with his intensity, with his competitiveness, with his positivity.”

While he has been overshadowed by players such as Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, Quinn Ewers and Dillon Gabriel, Howard has the skills to lead this Buckeyes team to a Big Ten title and a deep run in the College Football Playoff.
