Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders finished the regular season in style by pummelling the Oklahoma State Cowboys 52-0 in Week 14 of College Football action on Senior Night at home on Friday. The game may also be the bow for the Buffs' quarterback star Shedeur Sanders and the Heisman-contending wide receiver Travis Hunter.
In a clip posted on the Buffs' Instagram account after the game, the $45 million worth Sanders (as per Celebrity Net Worth) became emotional while addressing the departing seniors, including his sons, Shilo and Shedeur:
"Hey seniors, I'm proud of y'all, I'm proud of y'all. I love y'all, I appreciate y'all. Some of y'all it hurts my heart to see that y'all leaving. It truly got me emotional before the game because I can't fathom going out there in that stadium without y'all because of how much y'all mean to me and how much y'all mean to this program.
"Y'all helped to shape what we have now is a real Buff nation."
Colorado's chances of making the playoff are slim but not entirely gone. After winning their Week 14 game, the Buffs' Big 12 Championship hopes now depend on the results of three other teams -- Arizona State, BYU and Iowa State -- who were also tied at 6-2 in conference play before Friday.
If two of these three teams lose their final regular season games on Sunday, Deion Sanders' Colorado will make the title game and could still punch their ticket to the playoff.
Deion Sanders vows to play his NFL-bound stars in bowl game
Some draft prospects usually opt out of their team's bowl games to protect their draft stock, but Deion Sanders dismissed the option of sitting out his NFL-bound Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in the Buffs' bowl game. In the post-game news conference, Coach Prime said:
“Our kids are gonna play in our bowl game, because that’s what we signed up to do and we’re gonna finish. We’re not gonna tap out, because that throws off the structure of next season. There’s a couple, you take note, they lay an egg in the bowl game and they haven’t recovered since. We don’t plan on doing that.”
ESPN's projected No. 1 pick, Shedeur Sanders, who threw for 438 yards resulting in five touchdowns in the win over Oklahoma State, reiterated Deion Sanders' message about playing in the Buffs' bowl game during his post-game news conference.
“We gotta lead by example,” Shedeur Sanders said. “We can’t want them to go out there and play hard and we’re sitting back chillin'. That’s something Dad talked to us about. And I was like, 'OK.' It don’t really make a difference to me because I play almost every game of the season.
“Everything in life that’s good always comes to an end. It’s why you gotta value the people you with all the time. Because you don’t know when the end is near. I valued everything, and I’m thankful for everything that happened.”
Colorado Buffaloes fans will be heartened by Deion Sanders' insistence that his departing stars play in the team's bowl game to set the tone for next season, which bodes well for the coach's future in Boulder.
