Arizona Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan recently spoke about some members of his team. One of the players that he praised is wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
Brennan was speaking at the Big 12 Media Days and compared McMillan to a famous basketball player.
"TMac is one of those rare people that is actually fiercely competitive but is having fun during the competition. Like almost the way Steph Curry plays basketball. He looks like he's having so much more fun than everybody else."
Tetairoa McMillan had a strong sophomore season in 2023. He recorded 1,402 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. These performances meant that he was the team's leading receiver, with only Jacob Cowing, now with the San Francisco 49ers, scoring more touchdowns than him.
McMillan was a key part of Noah Fifita's offense and helped the Wildcats end the season with a 10-3 record. They defeated the likes of the Utah Utes, Colorado Buffaloes and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Additionally, two of their three losses were in overtime, meaning that their offense was something that kept them in games.
Coach Brennan was full of praise for McMillan's abilities as a wide receiver during the Big 12 Media Days.
"Then, as a talent or as a receiver – I'm an old receiver guy myself, not nearly as good as any of the guys I'm coaching right now – but TMac's body control, his ability to finish 50/50 balls ... I think so many games in college or the NFL come down to a 50/50 throw on a short yardage play where you can't run it because they have too many people in the box, and his ability to finish those catches – and Noah's ability to throw them – makes TMac extremely rare."
What has Arizona HC Brent Brennan said about playing in the Big 12?
In 2024, the Arizona Wildcats have left the PAC-12 conference and will be playing in the Big 12 this year. With the likes of Tetairoa McMillan on their roster, the Wildcats do have a chance to challenge for the Big 12 conference championship.
However, they are not the only new arrival in the Big 12. They have been joined by four additional PAC-12 programs, who will now call the Big 12 home.
Brennan spoke to the media during Big 12 Media Days about going into this new conference and having to face three familiar programs. He told the media:
"I think that helps. In maybe the simplest way, it helps. It's just those venues are all places that I've coached games in. So, that part of it, I think that's the unknown part for us joining the Big 12, is the new venues that we haven't played in yet, that our players haven't felt the crowd at or what that feels like on game day, because I think having a great home crowd kind of can impact the team.
"I'm also excited for all these teams to come to Arizona Stadium and feel the ZonaZoo and feel our crowd and our fans and the city of Tucson and how they rally for the U of A."
The Arizona Wildcats will open their season against the New Mexico Lobos, and their first game against their new conference rivals will be in Week 3, when Arizona visits Kansas State.
