Analyst Rich Eisen is an alumnus of the University of Michigan, and he got to watch with joy as the Wolverines became national champions last season. Unfortunately for him, UM couldn't replicate its success this season. To make matters worse, three of the Wolverines' four biggest rivals are in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
On Friday, Eisen released an episode of his "The Rich Eisen Show" and discussed the upcoming CFP semifinal matchups. He talked about how the teams remaining are nearly the worst-case scenario for Michigan fans.
"To have these three team vie for the right to succeed Michigan as a National Champion is quite frankly, tough to swallow," Eisen said (0:40). "Not going to lie, watching Notre Dame and Penn State play together, is going to be a hate watch. It's gonna be a hate watch. Well nothing compared to the winner of that potentially against Ohio State.
"That's gonna be like me watching the Red Sox taking on the Mets in 1986. Where I'm like, can both teams lose, is it entirely possible, can both teams lose?
"So, in that regard, if you had to ask any Michigan Wolverine fan name me your four teams you hate the most. Name the four biggest rivals of the University of Michigan, you would choose, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and Notre Dame."
Rich Eisen must wait for the College Football Playoff semifinals to start on Jan. 9
Rich Eisen will need to wait a few days before he finds out which of Michigan's bitter rivals will compete for the national championship on Jan. 20. The semifinal matchups take place on Jan. 9 and 10.
The game he is looking forward to the least is the one between the Penn State Nittany Lions and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both are big rivals of Michigan, and one of them is guaranteed to reach the national championship game. They will compete in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The next matchup will take place the next day, Friday, Jan. 10. The Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes will compete in the Cotton Bowl. Eisen will need to cheer for the Texas Longhorns if he does not want a Michigan rival to win the national title. That game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
