The No. 11-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (according to the AP Top 25 Poll) lost to the No. 10-ranked Ole Miss Rebels 28-10 on Saturday. It was the Bulldogs' second loss of the season. It resulted in Georgia falling to No. 12 on the official college football rankings released by the college football playoff selection committee.

Dropping the Bulldogs nine spots to No. 12 means they are right on the edge of making the playoffs, which is not something many people agree with.

Mike Greenberg and Paul Finebaum spoke on Wednesday about their shock at coach Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs being ranked so low on ESPN. Greenberg started the conversation, saying:

"Georgia's strength of schedule right now is number one in the country. Their strength of record is number three in the country. They are right now out of the playoffs.
"For the record, they beat Texas at Texas. Texas' strength of schedule is 55th, their strength of record is 10th, they haven't beaten a team who is ranked. They are number three in the country! Georgia is on the outside looking in. Paul, it's a mockery! How could you explain it?"

Finebaum responded, saying:

"You have to start by saying what the committee said last night is a complete travesty. There's no getting around it. I know they work hard. I know they sit at a five-star resort ordering caviar and champagne and sit around and talk about college football when they have 4000 numbers to look at it. So, I don't know how they came up with these numbers.
"Georgia started the season against Clemson, which was in the top 10 at the time. Their road schedule has been the toughest of anyone in the country. They went to Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss. They have a chance, they'll play Tennessee this weekend and if they win, they'll probably end up in the committee's good graces."

Georgia will need to beat Tennessee to stay in the playoff mix

As Paul Finebaum pointed out, it is surprising that the Bulldogs are on the edge of the playoff mix despite having several ranked wins. However, they still have a chance to make the playoffs.

To earn a playoff berth, the Bulldogs will need to defeat No. 6-ranked Tennessee on Saturday. A loss would make it highly unlikely for them to make the playoffs. It would give them their third loss of the season and make it unlikely for the CFP selection committee to give them an at-large playoff berth.
